DSTV To Telecast AFCON 2023 Matches After Backlash From Users

In a stunning turn of events, football enthusiasts all across Africa can now rejoice as they will have the privilege of witnessing the entire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) live, thanks to SuperSport’s recent announcement.

Barely a week ago, SuperSport sent shockwaves throughout the continent by declaring that they would not be broadcasting the highly anticipated tournament, which was set to take place from January 13th to February 11th, 2024, in Ivory Coast.

However, in a complete reversal, MultiChoice, the parent company of SuperSport, has successfully secured broadcasting rights in collaboration with New World TV (NWTV), ensuring that every exhilarating moment will be brought directly to your screens.

“We are delighted to be able to showcase the best of African football live to our viewers,” declared Rendani Ramovha, SuperSport CEO.

This sentiment was echoed by Nimonka Kolani, Managing Director of NWTV, who stated, “Nothing is more important than the happiness of Africans who wish to follow their teams during the biggest football competition in Africa.”

DStv and GOtv subscribers across Africa can cheer on their favourite teams, while Ghanaian fans can also relish the action on free-to-air channels like GTV, GTV Sports Plus, and pay television broadcaster Startimes.

The 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations, which is organized by the Confederation of African Football, is set to take place in 2023. Ivory Coast will be hosting the tournament for the second time, with the first time being in 1984.

Originally, this edition of the tournament was planned to be the third one held during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer to avoid conflicts with European club teams and competitions. However, due to concerns about adverse weather conditions in the Ivory Coast during the summer, CAF decided to postpone the tournament to January 13–11, 2024.

Despite the change in dates, the tournament will still retain its original name for sponsorship purposes. This decision follows a similar move for the 2021 edition in Cameroon, which was also rescheduled to the Northern Hemisphere’s winter season for similar reasons.
