ECG Disconnects Osu Police Barracks Electricity Due To An Illegal Connection

The Electricity Corporation of Ghana cut power to the Osu Police Barracks because of an illegal connection.

According to citinewsroom.com, a task force from the ECG uncovered the unauthorised connections on three blocks of the barracks. These illegal connections were linked directly without using a metre.

During the routine rounds that the ECG takes to collect past-due payments from customers, illegal connections were discovered and disconnected.

Laila Abubakarim, who is the manager in charge of external communications at ECG and was a member of the team that went to the barracks, stated that in order to comply with the law, they were required to disconnect the electricity to the three blocks.

“Since it’s an illegal connection, we have the first right to disconnect before we deal with issues. The Ghana police would have to come to ECG where a bill will be generated for them covering a period of 12 months,” she said.

She also mentioned that for safety reasons, the barracks’ main administration building remains powered.

“The administration block also owes, but due to security implications, we’ve spared that facility while we discuss further the amount involved. We consider the police accommodation facilities (blocks) a general facility hence the disconnection.”
