Electricity Company Of Ghana Signs New Power Purchase Agreement With AECL

The Electricity Company of Ghana has signed a power purchase agreement with one AKSA Energy Company Limited (AECL) , as announced by Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Energy, said the government’s long-term goal is to build an energy system that can sustain Ghana’s economy. That’s why, he said, the government would continue to spend more on partnerships that ensure constant power for businesses and homes around the clock.

According to a Facebook post by the Minister of Energy, the agreement is an important step towards protecting the stability and reliability of Ghana’s electrical infrastructure, especially in the country’s central regions.

The Minister’s post reads, “Our efforts at ensuring power supply reliability in the overall context of our socio-economic development continues on daily basis, anchored on the dictates of good governance.”

Pursuant to this, earlier this morning, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and AKSA Energy Company Limited (AECL) signed a power purchase agreement in furtherance of our quest for grid stability and reliability, especially in the middle belts of our country.

“In my remarks, I reminded the two parties of the essence of this morning’s exercise and thus, charged the ECG to ensure the full operationalization of the agreement in the interest of Ghanaians.”

“The Ministry of Energy envisages an energy sector that will be robust enough to support our national economy and therefore we will continue on the path of these important partnerships which will result in the constant availability of power for industrial and residential consumption.” he added.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, was joined by AKSA Energy representatives, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Herbert Krapa, and Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of ECG.
