Ed Sheeran Reveals His Wife Was Diagnosed With Tumour During Pregnancy

Ed Sheeran disclosed that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumor while carrying their second child.

The singer shared the news while announcing the release of his upcoming album, Subtract, which he said was inspired by a “series of events” that “changed [his] life”

These events included his wife’s health issues and the death of his close friend Jamal Edwards; Sheeran described how he “spiralled” into depression last year as a result of enduring these obstacles.

He went on to describe the emotional strain he endured while his wife underwent tests, not knowing what the results might indicate.

“Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth,” explained Sheeran.

“My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air.”

In a week-long emotional outburst, he discarded “hundreds” of songs he’d written for his upcoming sixth album and rewrote the entire thing.

“Writing songs is my therapy.” “It helps me make sense of my feelings,” said the singer. He continued: “I wrote without thought of what the songs would be; I just wrote whatever tumbled out.” And in just over a week, I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest, darkest thoughts.”

Sheeran has not yet disclosed his wife’s current condition, but he has stated that his upcoming album will feature some of his “deepest, darkest thoughts.”

The singer’s wife, Seaborn, whom he married in 2019, has given him two children.

The couple’s daughter Lyra was born in 2020, and in May 2022, they announced the birth of their second child.
