I Was Not Happy With My ‘Serwaa’ Role- Fella Makafui On Why She Snubbed YOLO Series

During an interview on TV3’s Afternoon Show with Anita Akufo, Fella Makafui opened up about her decision to leave the YOLO series.

She explained that she felt a strong sense of déjà vu with her character Serwaa, which made her uncomfortable.

Fella Makafui expressed her desire to portray the role of Emily, but unfortunately, she was not given the opportunity.

She therefore attributed her absence from the movie to the producer and director’s failure to assign her the desired role.

Makafui further revealed that before moving to Accra to pursue her dreams, she used to sell bread, and she didn’t want to continue playing a similar role in a movie.

She said;

I declined taking the role of Serwaa… I believed so much in myself that back then I did not know that as an actor, I had to go through that process.

I wanted to play the role of Emily, but I was told to act as Serwaa, and I didn’t want to because I was selling bread for my mother even before coming to Accra, so why would I be doing the same in a movie?

The YOLO series delves into the lives of a group of vibrant young Ghanaians, delving into various aspects of life such as health, gender, social, and cultural issues.

The Season 6 version shared a captivating storyline that takes place in Ghana’s Northern Region, where beloved characters from previous seasons embark on their National Service.

Through the lens of these young characters, the show employs the power of “edu-tainment” to address and enlighten the youth on crucial health matters, including nutrition, malaria, maternal, newborn, and child health, water, sanitation and hygiene, COVID-19, as well as family planning and reproductive health.

With its compelling content, the YOLO series has garnered an extensive and diverse following, amassing over 30 million views on YouTube and attracting over two million weekly viewers on television.
