Kwame Nkrumah Remains Ghana’s Only Transformational Leader – Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

Former Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has lamented the lack of progress in Ghana despite its relative peace and prosperity in the decades since independence.

The renowned heart surgeon and founder of the National Cardiothoracic Centre believes that the country has not seen another transformational leader since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

During an interview aired on Citi TV on Monday, Ghana’s ex-Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, who fell out with the Akufo-Addo administration due to the controversies that plagued his tenure as Chairman of the government’s anti-illegal mining task force, said that the country has no reason to be in a bad place right now given the decades of peace it has enjoyed.

“If, after twenty or forty years, we are not making any headway, though we haven’t had any civil war, drought, or any natural catastrophe, and we are in this state, there must be something wrong, and it can only be a lack of transformational leadership… “We haven’t had any transformational leadership since Kwame Nkrumah,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated that regardless of how much political leaders try to conceal the effects of poor leadership, they will always be exposed.

“We cannot hide the consequences of corruption, incompetence, and mismanagement; you can hide them, but they will appear,” he added.
