Let’s Support Them – Serwaa Amihere Weighs-In On War Against Ghanaian Artistes After Asake Filled 02 Arena
Serwaa Amihere has weighed in on the cacophony of noises that have erupted on the Ghanaian landscape of the internet.
Asake made history when he sold out the famous O2 Arena in London, thereby adding him to the list of African artistes who have accomplished this feat. Ghanaians began to drag their own artistes for failing to match their Nigerian counterparts on the international stage.
Essentially, the widespread appeal of Nigerian Afrobeats musicians, their consistent presence on major international charts, substantial global streaming numbers, and, notably, the spectacular live shows, are some of the key factors that have contributed to their global dominance of this genre.
These Nigerians have undoubtedly made a significant impact on the international scene, triumphantly filling prestigious arenas and stadiums worldwide, including Ziggo Dome, Tottenham Stadium, and London Stadium, to mention just a few.
Among the distinguished venues, the O2 Arena holds a significant place for Afrobeats artists. Asake has achieved a remarkable milestone by joining the ranks of elite Afrobeats acts who have successfully sold out this massive 20,000-capacity arena.
The Asake Live in London Concert, which took place on August 20, 2023, at the O2 Arena, was recently announced, and within a span of two months, the entire arena’s tickets were sold out, a testament to Asake’s mass appeal, particularly in the UK.
This accomplishment places him as the fourth Nigerian artist to successfully sell out the O2 Arena, following in the footsteps of Wizkid (5 times), Davido (twice), and Burna Boy (once).
Asake’s reaction to learning of his successful sell-out of the O2 Arena was priceless. In a video circulated on social media, an evidently elated Asake exuded his unmistakable “Mr. Money” flair, all while maintaining his signature composed and cool demeanour.
From the foregoing, Ghanaian fans were left fuming, as they think Ghanaian artistes have a lot to do if they can match their Nigerian counterparts. Given that Asake is a relatively new artist from Nigeria pulling off this feat, the discourse has gained different perspectives.
In this regard, Serwaa Amihere said instead of fans dragging their own artists juxtaposed the achievements of Nigerian artists, they should rather support them and make them thrive first.
