Michael Jackson’s Estate Claims His 98-Year-Old Mom Has Received Over $55M Since His Death
According to TMZ reports, Katherine Jackson, the mother of Michael Jackson, has received more than $55 million since her son’s passing in 2009.
This information was disclosed during ongoing legal discussions prompted by a motion filed by Michael’s youngest son, Bigi, aged 22. Bigi is seeking to prevent Katherine from using estate funds for her legal battles, one of which is believed to involve the estate’s significant $600 million catalog deal with Sony.
The estate’s recent filing argues that Katherine Jackson is financially capable of handling her legal expenses, pointing out that she has received over $33 million in cash as part of a $160,000 monthly allowance from the estate.
Additionally, documents reveal that more than $15 million has been allocated for purchasing and upgrading her residence, covering expenses for a private gardener, chef, and security services.
The origin of Katherine’s legal fees seems to stem from an appeal related to a deal made by the estate’s trustees, the details of which have not been disclosed.
Initially, Bigi, also known as Blanket and formally named Prince Michael Jackson II, supported his grandmother’s objections to the deal.
However, after a judge dismissed their concerns, Bigi filed documents arguing that Katherine should bear the responsibility for her legal costs, deeming it “unfair” to burden him and his siblings, who are heirs to the estate, with these expenses.
Born in 2002 via surrogate, Bigi is the youngest of Michael Jackson’s children, alongside his siblings Prince and Paris. Bigi was primarily under Katherine’s guardianship until 2017 when she transferred her responsibilities to his older cousin, Tito Joe “TJ” Jackson.
Katherine’s decision to transition guardianship to TJ Jackson was influenced by her age and her confidence in TJ’s ability to take on the responsibilities for Bigi, who was 15 years old at the time.
