NDC Holds A Press Conference Regarding COVID-19 Fund Mismanagement

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a press conference on the mismanagement of COVID-19 funds and accused the Akufo-Addo administration of wastefully using funds set aside to fight the COVID-19 crisis.

After a recent report by the Auditor-General on a special audit of the Government of Ghana’s COVID-19 spending for the period March 2020 to June 2022, this and other similar statements have surfaced.

On February 1, 2023, the Party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, held a press conference at the Party’s headquarters as part of the “Moment of Truth” series, outlining fifteen “shocking disclosures” from the auditor’s report.

The report revealed that a total of $120,192,379.80 in vaccinations were ordered from UNICEF/AVAT, only $38,322,000 vaccines had been supplied to the National Cold Storage. This means that $81.8 million in vaccines have not yet been delivered.

The party also said it was wrong that GHC10.3 million was used to buy Special Life Insurance Cover for 10,000 frontline Health Workers without policy documents or a list of recipients.

During the height of the epidemic, many people had voiced concerns about the safety of frontline Health Workers due to the many threats they encountered and the resulting deaths. In one of his remarks, President Akufo-Addo said “the government’s plan to offer free life insurance to all frontline health professionals”.
