Nicki Minaj Signs Ghanaian Singer-Songwriter Nana Fofie To Her Record Label

Nicki Minaj has signed Nana Fofie, a Ghanaian singer and songwriter, to her record label. The Queens rapper made the announcement on her Apple Music podcast, Queen Radio, while celebrating the release of her song “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” which broke multiple records by reaching No.1 on all platforms within hours of its release.

“I’m not gonna announce the name but I have a record label now,” Minaj mentioned on her podcast minutes after she told fans to pop up on the app for an announcement where she also revealed that she had signed a number of other artistes to her label.

Nana Fofie, who resides in the Netherlands, has carved out a musical career with her YouTube mashup freestyles, which have earned her the moniker “The Mashup Queen.” She is well-known for fusing contemporary R&B elements with her Ghanaian heritage to create her signature Afro-R&B sound.

In July, 2019, Nicki Minaj expressed interest in signing Nana Fofie after viewing a social media challenge video of her performing a cover of her song “Megathrone.” The rapper shared the video and praised Nana Fofie’s talent, requesting that the world support her.

She wrote: “GHANA STAND UP!!!! #megatronchallenge This is my baby @nanafofiee. I always talk about her on Queen Radio. You can thank me later. She’s not a rapper. She’s a singer/songwriter & I can’t wait for her to be apart or my label. Her song Odo is I played … her “mad over you mashup” on my ig while I was on vacation in Turks. Me & Bae LOVEEEEE HER MUSIC. She opened for me in Europe as well”

Nana Fofie served as backup vocalist for Nicki Minaj at one of her European concerts and opened for her in Amsterdam after the rapper mentioned how impressed she was with Nana Fofie’s talent, hearing the singer’s rendition of Runtown’s “Mad Over You” in 2019.

Fofiee’s Afro-R&B sound has made waves in the music industry, and she has received praise from Minaj herself. This deal has just been long overdue. She joins other recent additions to Minaj’s record label, such as dancehall artiste Skeng, Bronx rapper London Hill, and Rico Danna.
