NPP Super Delegates Conference: Alan Kyerematen Condemns Attack On His Polling Agent

A presidential aspirant-hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyerematen has expressed concern regarding an assault on his polling agent during the recently concluded Super Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In his initial response to the outcome of the conference held on August 26, the ex-trade minister expressed his view that the assault on Ali Zakaria constituted a permanent stain on the integrity of the internal democratic procedures within the NPP.

In his statement dated August 27, he said, “I would, however, like to express my deep sorrow about the brutal assault on my polling agent in the North East region. This is an indelible blot on the integrity of the internal democratic process within the NPP. I wish my colleague a speedy recovery and God’s man’ifold blessings, and I would like to assure him and his family of my unwavering support for his wellbeing.

The A4P Campaign Coordination team is currently analysing the results of the Special Electoral College Election and, in the course of this week, will deliver a public broadcast on the way forward for my campaign.”

I wish to reassure my teeming supporters, particularly those at the grassroot level, that the battle is still the Lord’s and that those who wait upon the Lord shall have their strength renewed.” part of the statement reads.

Aside from minor altercations in a few polling places, the incident in Nalerigu became the security-related incident that received the most attention during the election.

The purpose of the 2024 Super Delegates Conference was to narrow down the list of potential presidential candidates from ten to five.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 629 votes, which accounts for 68.15% of the total vote. The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, secured the second position in the election with a total of 132 votes, which is 14.30% of the total votes. Alan Kyerematen, the former Trade Minister, got the third position with a total of 95 votes, representing 10.29% of the votes.

In total, 955 delegates from across the country cast their ballots at one of 17 polling locations. There were allegations that President Akufo-Addo pressured delegates to vote for an “establishment candidate” in the party’s primary election. The president, however, denied the charges.
