Rapper Desiigner Says He’s Is Taking Some Time To Focus On His Mental Health After Flight Incident
After a strange encounter last week on a flight, rapper Desiigner says he is taking some time to focus on his mental health and will check into a mental health treatment facility.
Though specifics about this development are not clear, it appears that the ‘Panda’ artist exposed himself on an aircraft travelling from Tokyo to Minneapolis and was admonished by a flight attendant who then informed Minneapolis authorities.
When the artist’s jet landed, police were there to greet him, and it appears that he was let go without being detained. On Thursday, he did publish a message on Instagram.
He seems to recognize in the essay that he has mental health issues and that a drug provided to him in Asia might have contributed to a chemical imbalance.
For the past few months I have not been ok, and I have been struggling to come to terms with what is going on. While overseas for a concert I performed at, I had to be admitted in to a hospital, I was not thinking clearly. They gave me meds, and I had to hop on a plane home.
I am ashamed of my actions that happened on that plane. I landed back to the states, and am admitting my self in a facility to help me.
I will be cancelling all of my shows and my obligations until further notice. Mental health is real guys, please pray for me. If [you’re] not feeling like yourself, please get help.
Who is Desiigner
Desiigner’s real name is Sidney Royel Selby III. He is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter, known for his December 2015 debut single “Panda”, which topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In 2019, he was released from Def Jam and became an independent artist.
Desiigner was born on May 3, 1997, in Brooklyn, New York City. He is the grandson of blues artist Sidney “Guitar Crusher” Selby and is of Afro-Barbadian and African American origin. He was raised in the Bedford-Stuyvesant housing developments named Louis Armstrong. He started singing in the school chorus and the church. He started his musical career when he was just 14 years old.
