Rwandan President, Paul Kagame Hosts Rema

Rema had the privilege of meeting Rwandan President Paul Kagame, following a courtesy visit the esteemed Nigerian artiste paid to the presidential palace in Kigali on Sunday, October 22.

The warm reception extended to Rema was personally delivered by President Kagame. Prior to this encounter, Rema graced the 2023 Trace Music Awards in Kigali on Saturday, where he emerged victorious as the Global African Artist of the Year and also claimed the prestigious Song of the Year accolade with his hit track, ‘Calm Down’.

“A lot of time we just want to take that break, we just want to lay back… I feel like with here we can serene energy, that vibe. And I feel like it’s even going to be a bigger thing when we [Africans] start uniting. I must say thank you so much, Mr President.”

At the 2023 Trace Awards held in Kigali, Rwanda, on Saturday, October 21, Rema and Davido emerged as the top winners.

Rema’s global hit “Calm Down” earned him the prestigious Song of the Year award, while also tying with Nomcebo for the title of Best Global African Artist.

On the other hand, Davido secured the titles of Best Male and Best Collaboration for his song “Unavailable,” a remarkable collaboration with Musa Keys. Additionally, Burna Boy was honoured with the Album of the Year award for his exceptional work on “Love Damini.”

The Trace Awards, a newly established awards franchise by the renowned global TV and multimedia platform Trace, aims to acknowledge and celebrate the talents of African and Afro-influenced musicians from both Africa and the African diasporas.

The event itself was a grand spectacle, featuring captivating performances by esteemed artists from various corners of the world. Notable acts included Davido, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, and Diamond Platnumz.

The awards ceremony included a star-studded lineup of artists, including Davido, Yemi Alade, Black Sherif, Kizz Daniel, and more. It was presented by legendary Nigerian musician D’Banj alongside global supermodel Maria Borges.
