The current National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, has alleged that the sole purpose of the proposed new Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) by the Electoral Commission (E.C.) for the 2024 elections is to rig the elections.
In an interview aired on Good Morning Ghana on Thursday, Sammy Gyamfi stated that the new C.I. intends to slow down the process of registering new voters so that not all eligible voters are on the list.
“I have taken the time to study the newly proposed C.I. that the EC is seeking to lay before Parliament in very, very good details, and when I was done with my study, it was very clear to me, Doc, that the real intention behind this C.I. is to rig the 2024 elections and nothing more.
“This new C.I. make no mistake about it and don’t be deceived, this new C.I is the 1st step in the plot by the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission to rig the 2024 elections.” It is as simple as that. “The issues are not complex to understand at all, and any objective, well-meaning Ghanaian who studies the new C.I. will come to this inevitable conclusion.”
Sammy Gyamfi says that the C.I. is trying to “suppress and disenfranchise” qualified citizens by making the Ghana Card the only valid document for registering new voters.
“I say so because the newly proposed C.I. seeks to achieve two things, number one, to suppress and disenfranchise many eligible voters, and number two is the newly proposed C.I. seeks to enable the rigging of the election through fraudulent registrations that political parties cannot check.”
