Thomas Partey has reportedly stormed the Black Stars camp with an Arsenal physiotherapist named Simon Murphy as Ghana readies to battle their counterparts from Angola in a double header AFCON qualifier.
Partey’s decision to have his own physiotherapist around him even during national duties is obviously to forestall any injury issues, having been sidelined for the major part of the season at his club.
Partey has endured a number of injury issues that have hampered his Gunners career ever since arriving at Arsenal. Partey has missed 39 games for Arsenal, more than a full Premier League season, despite missing just seven games in more than five years for Atletico Madrid’s senior team due to seven different problems.
The Black Stars will host Palancras Negras at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, March 23 before travelling to Luanda on March 27, 2023, for the reverse fixture.
Meanwhile, Chris Hughton defended Thomas Partey’s performances for the Ghanaian national team in comparison to his performances for Arsenal during his first press conference as the Black Stars coach on Monday.
The former Atletico Madrid star was singled out for criticism when Ghana crashed out of the group stage at the 2022 World Cup, with some noting that he performs seamlessly in the Arsenal setup but doesn’t replicate the same for the Black Stars.
However, Hughton has argued that Partey’s position with the national team necessitates that he be a continuity player rather than someone who can dribble past numerous opponents. Chris Hughton says.
Partey’s roles for both club and country are different from each other but key. His role in the team is as a continuity player. He is not the type of player to expect to dribble past multiple players. His role is important to what the team does even if he doesn’t always stand out.
