Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kevin De Bruyne have been shortlisted for the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
The top three contenders for the 2022–23 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award are Lionel Messi, Kevin De Bruyne, and Erling Haaland of Manchester City. The UEFA technical research group chose the shortlist based on each candidate’s performance throughout the previous season at the club and international levels.
The top three candidates were then chosen by a jury made up of the managers of the clubs that participated in the 2022–23 Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League group stages, as well as the managers of the men’s national team and a group of journalists chosen by the European Sports Media.
The top 11 were Jesus Navas, Rodri, Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic, Declan Rice, Alexis MacAllister, and Ilkay Gundogan. The trophy is currently held by Karim Benzema, however, Cristiano Ronaldo has won it three times more than any other player.
