Caroline Gifty Tsikata, who is reportedly a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been arrested by the Akasti South Police in the Volta Region for allegedly scamming some party members.
The 39-year-old suspect, a mother of two residing in Tema Community 25, was apprehended on Wednesday by Constituency Executives of NDC in Akatsi South following a tip-off after a complaint was lodged by Samuel K. Adabla, the Volta Regional Chairman of the United Cadres Front (UCF), an NDC-affiliated group. The complaint alleged that the suspect had engaged in impersonation and fraudulent activities.
During the subsequent police interrogation, the suspect admitted to frequenting various constituencies in Volta, including Akatsi South, Kpando, Keta, South Tongu, Ho, and others, in relation to her purported financial dealings.
Furthermore, she confessed to accepting undisclosed sums of money from unsuspecting NDC members under the pretense of providing them with various forms of financial assistance.
Two of her victims, namely John Atigode, a teacher in Akatsi, and Zigah Kofi Felix, reported that the suspect had taken GHC2400 and GHC1600, respectively, from them. According to a statement submitted by the UCF Chairman to the police, the suspect, a mother of two, had been masquerading as the Regional Coordinator for the Young Cadres Front (YCF) of the UCF in Volta.
“UCF Volta wishes to state explicitly that Madam Caroline Gifty Tsikata who is parading herself as such is not the Regional Coordinator for the Young Cadres Front and should therefore be treated as an imposter’’ the statement added.
According to the statement, the UCF Volta has not designated the suspect to operate in any position on its behalf to raise money or sell any kind of property in order to provide financial support to anybody.
