Who is Smart Joker’s Spouse?

The Kenyan comedian is married to an adorable woman named Mercy Warima Kagiri. Smart Joker previously revealed in an interview that he met his wife at Meru in a restaurant a few years ago, where he had gone with other comedians for a month for a kids’ festival.

Before we explore this intriguing facet of entertainment in Kenya, let us get to know who Smart Joker is.

Smart Joker is a Kenyan comedian and singer who debuted on the Churchill Show in 2013. His real name is  Michael Akala Omuka.

In his performances, he adopts a clown-like appearance, complete with protruding eyes and his trademark headgear, and he delivers his punchlines with a strong Luhya accent.

The comedian describes himself as the innocent-looking, wisecracking clown from Kibera. While still in high school, he adopted the name Smart Joker. ‘Kumnyamnyam’ squad, a group that used to compliment him on the humour and intelligence of his presentations, prompted him to adopt the moniker “Smart Joker.”

Smart Joker has a certificate from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication in Broadcast Journalism. When he graduated, his fellow comedians, led by Churchill (Daniel Ndambuki), praised him for his accomplishments.

This is what the graduate tweeted: Keziah Mwendwa Akala and Emanuella Khalumba Akala, the couple’s two adorable children, are raised by their funny comedian father, who is happily married to Mercy Warima Kagiri. He clearly prefers to keep them hidden from view.

The father of two is originally from Western Kenya but spent some time in Kibera, Nairobi. Even as a child, the comedian had a talent for making others laugh. In order to survive, Smart Joker worked odd jobs like cleaning sewage pipes and labouring on building sites. During auditions for the Churchill performance at the Carnivore grounds, a fellow comedian named Nick D (Nicodemus Odhiambo) persuaded him to give it a shot while performing a traditional dance at a Kibera-based NGO called Shinning Hope For Communities (SHOFCO).

A few days after tryouts, the ever-jovial man began appearing on the Churchill program, something he never would have dreamed would happen. The audience admired him and his fictional companion “Shimonjero.”

He would regale the audience with humorous anecdotes that made them laugh. He was instructing the friend on how to transition from analogue to digital during his third performance.

He even went so far as to release a song on the subject and garnered support from CCCK for the switch from analogue to digital. Since then, the comedian has only occasionally taken a vacation from work on the Churchill program.

The hardest part of telling a joke is seeing the audience not laugh. He recalls one instance in which he was called to perform at a gig where he was paid kes95,000 and the audience didn’t find his act humorous in an interview with Milele FM. He claims that the reason was that the audience was inebriated, not because he wasn’t humorous.
