Why I Composed ‘Dumsor’ Song Despite Staying In The US- Opanka
Rapper Opanka has disclosed the motive behind his latest track, which aims to shed light on the consequences of frequent power outages, commonly known as dumsor.
The rapper said despite residing in the United States for a considerable period, he still experiences the adverse effects of the ongoing dumsor situation, as he plans to return to Ghana soon.
Feeling compelled to address this issue through his music, Opanka said he hopes that the authorities will take the necessary actions.
He said his song, titled Dumsor Demonstration, intends to hold the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration accountable and prompt them to rectify this anomaly.
These remarks were made during his conversation with Amansan Krakye on Property FM, located in Cape Coast.
He remarked “First of all I’m still a citizen of Ghana and I still reside here because I’ve not migrated to the US completely but I just came here for a couple of shows and a project.
I’m not here to stay and I’ll return to continue with the work I’m doing here in Ghana so if something is going on there I’m also part of it and aside from me, my family is still in Ghana.
Apart from my family, my fans and Ghanaians are also there so it’s not as if I’m living well and others are suffering then I’ll become happy so if others aren’t feeling okay it’s the same thing with me.
That’s what leaders do and leaders think about their followers so I care about Ghanaians more than even me so it’s not just about me but about the entire nation that’s why I did the Dumsor Demonstration song,” he said.
