You Can’t Dictate To Them- Blakk Rasta Tells NPP Over UTV Attack

Blakk Rasta has conveyed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that they possess no authority to dictate UTV’s programming in light of the unjustified assault they inflicted upon the station.

The forthright radio presenter has raised concerns regarding the ruling government’s fixation on the UTV weekend program, subsequent to the issuance of a letter instructing the program to undergo content modifications to ensure impartiality and refrain from criticizing the government.

Blakk Rasta asserts that the relentless attacks on the program serve as a testament to its potency and as a source of distress for the New Patriotic Party.

Speaking on the UrbanBlend show on Monday, October 9, 2023, Blakk Rasta said “Now, we all remember that there was a letter written to the station [UTV] complaining about the said program [UnitedShowbiz], that it was becoming political.

“My brother, my sister and it came from a political party [NPP]. What is your problem with even a religious show becoming political, especially as a political party?” he quizzed.

“Do you decide for a radio station how it should run issue? Look at the number of political shows we have in the nation. And if that is not a problem to you, but one show becomes a tone in your flesh, then it means that the show is really big and powerful.

“Then it certainly means that the show is truly a nightmare for the ruling party. At the end of the day, we all thought it was over only for us to wake up and be told that there was actually a certain kind of vandalism that went on,” disgruntled Blakk Rasta fumed.

During the most recent episode of United Showbiz, just as the host, MzGee, was commencing her introduction to initiate the evening’s discussion, disturbances behind the scenes disrupted the live production. Shortly thereafter, a group of agitated individuals stormed the studio while the show was being broadcast live.

This incident compelled MzGee to halt her introduction, with gospel artist Nicholas Omane Acheampong taking over and performing for nearly two hours. Videos depicting the events that unfolded on United Showbiz quickly gained traction on social media.

While some commentators insinuated that the incident was politically motivated, others strongly believed it was a strategic ploy to generate attention for United Showbiz. Critics who held this perspective argued that the television station should have contacted the nearby Tesano Police, given its proximity to the station.

While assuring viewers of her safety and that of other panelists, MzGee apologised to viewers explaining that the show had to be halted following the unexpected mayhem.

She further noted that United Showbiz had no political affiliation or interest to push the interest or undermine any political party. MzGee said United Showbiz aimed at discussing relevant issues for the wellbeing of the creative industry and not for any political agenda.

“If there is a demonstration and we have our creatives being part of it to demand better living conditions, I don’t see why we can’t talk about it on the show. Besides, we also pay taxes so have every right just like any citizen to express our grievances about things that are not going right in the country,” she said.
