Akufo-Addo Asks Ken Ofori-Atta To Act As Trade Minister After Alan’s Resignation

President Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

In a statement on Friday, Nana Akufo-Addo commended Mr. Kyerematen for his service to the government and wished him well.

He announced that Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is to act temporarily in that position until a substantive appointment.

“The President has asked the Minister for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until a substantive appointment is made” the statement said.

The Trade Minister resigned on Thursday, ostensibly to prepare himself for the presidential race of the governing New Patriotic Party.

Alan Kyeremanten is one of the longest-serving Ministers in the Akufo-Addo administration. He’s led that Ministry since 2017.

He also served in that capacity under President John Agyekum Kufuor between 2003 and 2007.

He’s attempted the NPP presidential ticket several times against Nana Akufo-Addo who beat him to become NPP’s flagbearer and subsequently the President.

He’s expected to be the main contender against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia when the NPP opens nominations for its presidential primaries ahead of election 2024.
