Amerado Biography

Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, better known by his stage name Amerado, was born in Ejisu, Kumasi, Ghana, on February 14, 1995.

Amerado raps and sings primarily in the Twi dialect of the Ghanaian Akan language, although he occasionally employs English as well. By selecting the stage moniker Amerado, which translates to “Governor” in Akan, he intended to demonstrate his dominance within the music industry.

Music Career

Amerado attracted the attention of music producer, sound engineer, and A&R Azee Ntwene subsequent to his third-place finish at the 2015 Solid FM Freestyle Show. Ntwene subsequently signed him to his label, MicBurnerz Music.

A song by Mix Master Garzy that featured Amerado was written to promote peace in the wake of the 2016 Ghanaian general election. I AM, Amerado’s debut single, was released the following year and was ranked among the top ten Ghanaian songs by Pulse Ghana in January 2017.

Rapmare,” his debut EP, was released in November of that year. Amerado was a featured artist on the 2018 hip-hop single “Biibi Ba” by Sarkodie, which received a nomination for the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Best Hip-Hop Song.

On October 1, 2020, Reggie Rockstone, a prominent figure in the hip-life music genre of Ghana, proclaimed Amerado to be among the greatest Ghanaian rappers of all time.

Amerado collaborated with Shatta Wale and other musicians in Kumasi in 2020 to produce “Ahodwo Las Vegas.”

Amerado performed a freestyle and participated in an interview with Tim Westwood on Capital Xtra in London in August 2021. His freestyle segment was regarded by GRM Daily as one of the finest of the entire programme.
