American Rapper Killer Mike Arrested At Grammys After Winning Three Awards

American rapper Killer Mike was apprehended at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, just under an hour before the commencement of the 2024 Grammys.

During the preliminary ceremony on Sunday afternoon, the rapper achieved significant success in the rap genre, securing accolades for the best rap song and best rap performance with “Scientists & Engineers,” as well as the best rap album for Michael.

According to an arena security official, Killer Mike’s detainment was initially unrelated to the Grammy Awards, with the specific reason remaining undisclosed at this time.

“At around 4 p.m., an individual was detained at [Crypto.com Arena] for a physical altercation,” a LAPD spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The individual is currently being questioned. I cannot confirm the identity of the individual until the person is charged. The investigation is ongoing.”

The rapper was observed being escorted in handcuffs into a security room within the L.A. arena, near the VIP entrance. According to a source, the situation is not significant, and there is a possibility of his release later this evening.

Harvey Mason Jr., the CEO of the Recording Academy, was also spotted engaging in a conversation with security and the rapper’s team for approximately 10 to 20 minutes before proceeding backstage.

Around 6:15 p.m., the area outside the security room where Killer Mike was held cleared out, with LAPD officers leaving the vicinity and members of the rapper’s entourage swiftly moving through the arena. THR also noticed Mike being guided out through a side door in the rain. It remains uncertain where he was being escorted.

When THR inquired about further details from Killer Mike’s team present at the arena, they chose not to provide any comments. THR has also reached out to representatives of the Recording Academy and CBS.

Killer Mike’s recent victories come over two decades after he initially won a Grammy in 2003 for the best rap performance by a duo or group with “The Whole World,” his collaboration with OutKast.
