Court Remands 22-Year-Old Househelp Over Alleged Murder Of 83-Year-Old Woman

A 22-year-old house help has been remanded into police custody by the Asokwa Circuit Court in Kumasi over the alleged murder of an 83-year-old woman in Ayigya, Oforikrom Municipality.

Maku Kuame is accused of committing the crime in collaboration with her boyfriend during the early hours of Tuesday, January 2, 2024, while the elderly woman was asleep.

The motive behind the heinous act is purported to be the old woman’s accusation of Kuame stealing money sent to her by her children abroad.

Kuame was brought before the court on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and her plea was not taken. She is scheduled to reappear before the court, presided over by Mr. Kwaku Baah Frimpong, on January 17, this year.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector O.N Tetteh, requested the court to remand the suspect to facilitate further investigations by the police into the matter.
