Eno Barony’s Biography

Ruth Eno Adjoa Amankwah Nyame Adom, born October 30, 1991, is a Ghanaian vocalist and songwriter professionally known as Eno Barony. She was born in Tema, Ghana’s port and commercial capital, to Reverend Abraham Nyame Adom and Mrs. Rebecca Nyame Adom.

Eno began her education at Shallom Preparatory School and completed her lower elementary education at Cambridge Academy. She attended Methodist J.H.S for her junior high education, Methodist Day Secondary School in Tema for her senior secondary education, and Kumasi Polytechnic for her postsecondary education.

Music Career

Eno Barony released her debut single, “Wats Ma Name,” as well as “Tonga,” a rendition of the song “Tonga” by Joey B ft. Sarkodie, which brought her to prominence. It was asserted that she was the first Ghanaian female performer to reach one million YouTube views.

Even though she had previously recorded other singles, Eno gained wider recognition when she release her first commercially released single, “Tonga,” in 2014. She subsequently recorded additional tracks, including “Megye Wo Boy” with Abrewa Nana in 2015.

In 2015, her mother passed away. After several months of mourning, she broke her silence with a hip hop single titled “The Best” featuring Mic Flammez, an award-winning Togolese musician and brand ambassador for Togocel who has received multiple accolades.

In 2016, she recorded the single “Daawa” with Shatta Wale. She collaborated with rapper Kwaw Kese on the single “GARI” in the same year. She also collaborated on “Touch the Body” with Stonebwoy and “King of Queens” with Medikal.

In 2017, she released the singles “Juice Me” and “Obiaa Ba Ny3” alongside Ebony Reigns. Because of her reputation for rapping, she collaborated with Stay Jay, FlowKing Stone, Dr. Cryme, and other notable artists on the Save Mama Today initiative. In 2014, she was nominated for the uncovered category of the inaugural Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. She performed alongside Popcaan and Jah Vinci at the Accra Sports Stadium during Ghana Music Week.

Awards & Recognitions

In addition, she co-headlined the Closeup festival with the Ghanaian performer Sarkodie. She received a nomination for Jigwe awards. At the 4Syte Music Video Awards, her collaboration with Togo’s Mcee Mic Flammez was nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video.

2015 marked her third consecutive year performing at the Ghana Music Week Festival. She performed at both the Ghana DJ Awards and the Ghana Freedom Concert (S Concert). In the same year, she headlined the Joy FM Old School reunion alongside Stonebwoy, and in 2016, she took part in Adom FM’s Temafest alongside other musicians. She was appointed music commissioner for the 2017 Ghana Meets Nigeria event.

In November 2020, she earned the Best Female Rap Act in Africa award at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).

The 3Music Awards Women’s Brunch ranked her among the top 30 most influential women in music in March 2021. She became the first female artist in Ghana to win the ‘Rapper of the Year’ award at the 2021 3Music Awards. In 2021, she became the first Ghanaian woman to win Best Rapper at the VGMA, beating Sarkodie, Amerado, Medikal, Strongman, and Joey B.
