Freddie Blay Reacts To Wanting NPP Out Of Power

The former chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has been captured in viral footage expressing his desire for his own government to be removed from power.

The NPP stalwart has consequently come out to voice his dissatisfaction with Joy Prime, a subsidiary of Multimedia, for their failure to rectify an error he made during the interview he granted them, in which he inadvertently stated that he wanted the NPP to be ousted from power.

Blay released a statement clarifying that he mentioned the wrong political party, but the editors and producers neglected to edit it out. The Ghanaian politician believes that the media organization did not perform its duties adequately, tarnishing his image and reputation.

He argues that the video, which continues to circulate and is being used for propaganda, portrays the multimedia group in a negative light and labels them as purveyors of fake news.

Freddie Blay has called on the leadership of the Multimedia Group to call the team that interviewed him to order and ask that they do the right thing.

See below for the full statement he issued;

“I write to you and your station management to lodge my displeasure and grievance about a recent interview I granted your station in my home on February 26, 2024.

After a prolonged and repeated request by your staff for me to grant an interview on my personal life and political career, I agreed and welcomed your journalist to my home for what was an over 40-minute interview covering a wide range of topics but centered around my personal and political career.

It has since been brought to my attention that a video extract from this interview is being widely circulated on multiple social media platforms and political arenas, where your stations producers and editors, have gone out of their way to chop and edit the content from this interview to create a very mischievous and negative impression on my good self from a portion of the interview where I mentioned the wrong political party’s name when clearly referring to the other.

Any discerning and good intended journalist would easily recognized the faux pas and would have corrected the mistake or omit it from the final edit. It would seem clear however that the team that conducted this interview went out of their way to not only highlight the obvious error, but went further to edit in other parts of the lengthy interview to create the very opposite impression to the point I was making In this era of fake news being abundant on social media, I believe it goes without saying that the actions of your team shed a very poor and distasteful light on your seasoned organization.

Being one of the market leaders in this profession, adherence to sound and honest journalism is paramount, making it more disappointing that your station will knowingly partake in soundbite clickbait journalism.

I would deem it appropriate that the management of Multimedia Group in the very least, calls to order the team that conducted the interview and does the needful to correct the clearly wrong impression they sought to create in the public eye.”
