Guinness Worlds Records Trend By Ghanaians Becoming Boring— Salma Mumin

Actress Salma Mumin expressed her opinion on the current trend of Ghanaians participating in Guinness World Record-breaking attempts, stating that it has become monotonous and requires attention.

She highlighted that the initial excitement witnessed during the achievements of Afua Asantewaa and Failatu Abdul Razak has diminished, making it unworthy to continue pursuing such endeavours, considering that others are also doing the same.

During a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Salma Mumin emphasized that Ghana has witnessed numerous attempts to break and establish new records in the GWR since December of the previous year, and therefore, there should be no further endeavours of this nature.

She further explained that while striving for world records can instil a sense of national pride, it is crucial to exercise moderation and discernment. This would ensure that efforts are channelled towards endeavors that genuinely contribute positively to society.

“The aim to break and set new GWR is becoming too many and increasingly bothersome. To me, it is everything wrong. What is all this ‘thon thon’ craze for?

“This is becoming too much, which is why there has even been a decline in interest in the trend; people are not supportive of those participating at the moment. What do we seek to gain? Some of them are unnecessary. We should just put a stop to that.

“We are tired already and you can tell people are no longer interested in the ongoing attempts like the earlier ones. It is because our people are abusing it and so we no longer find the need to support them,” Salma Mumin added.

The trend was initiated by Afua Asantewaa, who commenced the longest singing marathon in December 2023. This event created a significant buzz on social media and received extensive support from Ghanaian celebrities and politicians.

Subsequently, Failatu Abdul Razak, Chef Smith, and Adu Safowaah also participated in their respective marathons, namely a cooking marathon and a ‘speech-a-thon’.

Additionally, there were other notable achievements, such as Dela Gomey’s challenge of applying the most lipstick in 30 seconds, DJ Sam’s record-breaking marathon club DJ-ing, and the remarkable attempt by one-year-old Ace-Liam to become the Youngest Male Artist.
