I Am The Only Rapper To Earn VGMAs Best Rapper Nominations 4 Times In A Row- Strongman
Strongman has bemoaned his ability to win his first-ever award at the prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) despite securing four consecutive nominations in the Best Rapper of the Year category.
The former SarkCess Music signee claims that despite his extraordinary abilities, the award has consistently escaped him, prompting him to wonder what else he can do to win the coveted honour.
The rapper highlighted in an interview with TV3’s New Day that he had tried everything to win a VGMA but still hadn’t received one, despite being the only person in Ghana to have received four consecutive Best Rapper nominations.
He stated during the interview thus;
Four consecutive nominations is not an easy task, I am the only one on this soil, the only one in Ghana to have four years of four Best Rapper nominations. For me not picking the award that is also another story because personally, I don’t know what I am supposed to do again.
Because I have been doing it, for me to stay that consented for these number of years, it speaks volume and I am not angry I don’t win.
They have accepted me, as I keep saying, for you to be in the nominations lists without missing out, because every rapper in Ghana has missed out, it should tell you I have been consistent and accepted.
Strongman suggested that the award scheme is biased because most of the time, the final decision to give an award to an artiste boils down to the board members and not on merit or depended on the fanbase.
Right now, the award is given based on the decision of the board so it is not about the fans anymore, and honestly, I don’t really care that much, it is not taking anything away from me. Awards don’t affect my music; I drop and I still see the results.
Awards give an artist three things, it gives you a competitive advantage over your colleagues, it makes you feel good about yourself and it makes you feel like your sweat has been rewarded for all your emotions.
Strongman biography
Strongman’s real name is Osei Kwaku Vincent. His stage name is Strongman or Strongman Burner or Strong Gee. He was recognized for winning the maiden edition of the Next Big Thing in GH Rap Music which was a rap competition in Ghana.
Under the MicBurnerz Music label run by Azee Ntwene, he won the Focus fm Freestyle Friday in 2010, Kfm Freestyle Saturday in 2011, and The Next Big Thing In Ghanaian Hip-hop in 2012.
