Inspector Twumasi: Police Officer Behind Alleged Murder of Maa Adwoa Pleads Not Guilty

Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, the police officer accused of shooting his girlfriend to death at Adum in Kumasi has pleaded not guilty in court.

The suspect who appeared before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday, June 20, denied culpability despite having pleaded guilty in a previous court appearance.

In response to the concise facts presented by the State’s Attorney during the committal proceedings, he pled guilty.

Inspector Twumasi refused to address any further questions, insisting that his attorney would provide responses during the main trial.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Blagodzi, who has been conducting the prosecution, has already presented compelling evidence in court, including exhibits such as the suspect’s service pistol and CCTV footage, demonstrating the suspect’s connection to the crime.

Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maa Adwoa, was viciously murdered in Adum, a few metres from her home, on April 20.

The suspect was apprehended and then placed in prison detention. After the suspect pleaded not guilty, friends and family of the deceased who had crowded the courthouse in protest of his refusal to admit guilt caused pandemonium outside the courthouse.

To control the throng, the Police had to request reinforcements. Some of them threw rocks at the police as they escorted the suspect from the courtroom.

The case has been adjourned to July 13, 2023.
