NPP Primaries: K. T. Hammond Runs To National Committee To Seek Disqualification Of Opponents

Kobina Tahir Hammond, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, has escalated his efforts in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries by filing a petition to the National Vetting Committee. In this new petition, Hammond seeks the disqualification of all three opponents in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

This move comes after an initial petition filed on January 2, 2024, with the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, which aimed to disqualify his main opponent, Sammy Binfoh Darkwa. However, the regional committee dismissed the petition, clearing both candidates for the primary.

Not satisfied with the regional committee’s decision, K.T. Hammond has now taken his case to the National Vetting Committee. In the petition, he expresses dissatisfaction with the verdict of the Ashanti Regional Vetting Committee, led by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

Citing Article 12(4) and (7) of the party’s constitution, Hammond argues that his opponents, including Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, are ineligible to participate in the parliamentary primaries. He alleges that they do not belong to the NPP and have made insufficient contributions to the constituency’s progress.
