Omah Lay Breaks Fans Hearts As He Announces Break From Music

Omah Lay surprised his fans and music enthusiasts by announcing on his Instagram story on Saturday, February 17, 2024, that he will be taking a break from making music.

He did not give any specific reason for his sudden decision but mentioned in a separate post that he needs more love. “I am not giving you new music anytime soon, Omah Lay wrote.

Similarly, in a recent interview with The Beat FM in London, UK, the Soso hitmaker expressed that he is unconcerned with the labels given to his music as long as his fans are enjoying it. He also mentioned that he respects the opinions of his fans and would never argue with them.

Omah Lay said, “I just make my music how I want to make my music. I try as much as possible to stay away from titles and everything the world is trying to put on you. Because as my guy would always say, ‘When the smokes clear, then you see clearly.

“So when you identify with those things [titles and tags] it just… I just make my music, I don’t care what anybody wants to tag it to enjoy it as long as you enjoy the music. If you feel like it’s Afro-depression, I am okay with that as long as you enjoy the music. Some other people would dance to it.

“It’s art. That’s what I make and I just leave the world to enjoy how they want to enjoy it. The fans have their own opinions, I would never argue with that. If that’s how they enjoy it, that’s how they enjoy it.”

Omah Lay initially started his music career as a member of a rap group using the stage name “Lil King.” Transitioning to songwriting and music production, he remained largely uncredited until the release of “Do Not Disturb” in April 2019, followed by “Hello Brother” a month later.

In June 2019, he signed with the record label KeyQaad and took a seven-month hiatus to work on his debut EP, Get Layd. Upon his return, he dropped “Bad Influence,” which became the most-streamed Nigerian song on Apple Music by the end of 2020.

On February 14, 2020, Lay unveiled “You” as his first official single, preceding the release of his five-track debut EP, Get Layd on 22 May 2020. The EP soared to number one on the Nigerian Apple Music charts, with all five tracks making it to the top 15, and “You” claiming the number one spot.
