“National Cathedral Should Be Converted Into A National Hospital” – TUC Boss

Trades Union Congress General Secretary Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah has urged that the government reduce unnecessary spending and convert the National Cathedral into a hospital.

The Trades Union Congress believes that the current financial crisis can be reduced if the government redirects its spending priorities away from things that are not necessary and puts its focus on measures that create jobs and generate revenue from taxes.

The topic of this year’s May Day parade is “Protecting incomes and pensions in an era of economic crisis: Our responsibility.”

At the May Day parade in Bolgatanga in 2023, the TUC General Secretary asked the government to stop spending money on things like the National Cathedral that weren’t necessary.

In the latest news today, he announced that instead of a cathedral, he proposed turning the site into a public hospital to better serve the country.

We have to change the situation ourselves as Ghanaians. We believe strongly that government can lead us out of this crisis, and the government can do so by cutting expenditure on non-essentials including the need to stop spending our hard-earned revenue on a national cathedral.” he stated

“The president has always said he wants to create another Notre Dame in Ghana so we can attract a lot of visitors but we disagree. In fact, comrades, it will be better to convert the project into a national hospital.

Additionally, he emphasised demands for the government to reduce its size in order to cut costs.

“Mr. President, you can also reduce the size of your government. Ghana has too many ministers and deputy ministers.” he added
