Two Additional Suspects Arrested In Relation To Cecilia Dapaah’s Stolen Money

The ongoing investigation into the stealing of money from the home of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah has led to the arrest of two more individuals.

On Wednesday, August 2, police prosecutor DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye revealed the new information in court. Five people, including two of the former Minister’s housekeepers, have been arrested on charges of stealing worth one million dollars, 300,000 euros, and thousands of Ghanaian cedis.

The prosecutor added that investigators were in Tamale conducting more investigations relating to the case, but the accused suspects were not present.

The total number of suspects in this case has increased to seven after the arrests of the two more people. Sarah Agyei, the second accused, was released on bond last week but has not yet met the conditions of her release.

The remaining six, including the new suspects, remain in police custody. To allow for further investigation and to settle the bail issue of the second accused, Sarah Agyei, the case has been postponed until August 8. On Wednesday, police prosecutors in the case of the suspected theft of over a million dollars from the former sanitation minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, did not bring forward the accused suspects.

Prosecutors stated that the police officer who was scheduled to present the two defendants was out of town. Additionally, it was said that the AG has taken charge of the prosecution of the case.

John Dumelo waded in on the issue, stating what he could do with even a small amount of her money after seeing how she made news by causing the arrest of her housekeeper and others. He said he would have expanded his onion and tomato farm if given the chance to do so.

According to reports, between July and October of 2022, the former minister of sanitation had millions of dollars stolen from her Abelemkpe residence by her housekeepers. The minister has resigned as a result of the scandal.
