Where Did Bawumia Get The $1 Million He Used To Renovate The Kumasi Central Mosque? – Alhaji Said Sinare Quizzes

There has been speculation that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia personally funded the reconstruction of the Kumasi Central Mosque; however, this has been questioned by Alhaji Said Sinare, a former national vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

The Kumasi Central Mosque is now the largest and most spacious mosque in the whole of Ashanti region. It can hold up to 7,000 people and has 30 underground bathrooms, making it one of the largest in the country. There are 11 fully equipped offices in the mosque, in addition to a conference hall that can seat 500 people, two-bedroom residences that are fully air-conditioned, and other stunning lighting components.

Dr. Bawumia reportedly used donations to complete the reconstruction and renovation of the mosque, making good on a promise he made to the Muslim community in the Ashanti Region.

Alhaji Sinare said, in an interview on XYZ TV sighted by Tru News Report, that the mosque renovation cost between $1 million and $1.2 million, and he questioned how the vice president got such a large sum of money on his own.

He said that he had helped fix up the mosque in the past with the help of other people. Therefore, he demanded that Dr. Bawumia explain where the money came from that was used to repair the Kumasi Central Mosque.

“Let’s assume that it is the vice president who is funding the Kumasi Central Mosque; my issue is that look at the amount involved. Can the vice president fund this project from his own pocket? That amount, a few couples of millions of dollars, where is he going to even get the money from?

“In Islam as you know, if you are funding something in the course of Allah and the money is not Halal money, you will not get the blessing for that no matter what you do… if anybody contributed to it say it, mention the people who contributed to the project, there is no crime about it.

“… when I handed over, I even told the one who took over from me, T.B. Damba, that this is where I have reached, the funding (from the Saudi Prince) was coming that particular month, continue from there, make sure that the money comes in, If the vice president is saying that he funded it… does he have that money, something around $2 million. Assuming it cost $1 million, does he have the $1 million? How much does he earn?” he added.

During the opening of the Kumasi Central Mosque, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said that rumors that Saudi Arabia paid for the renovations were not true. According to the vice president, the mosque was renovated and redecorated solely using cash generated in Ghana.

“Some have been spreading rumours that we are using Saudi money to fund our project, but that is not true. Some people believe that we cannot do anything on our own. We can accomplish everything we set our minds to.”
