XXXTentacion’s Accused Killers Found Guilty Of First-Degree Murder
Three individuals have been found guilty of first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with XXXTentacion’s 2018 gunshot death outside a South Florida motorcycle shop.
Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams, and Trayvon Newsome attacked and murdered the rapper outside of a South Florida motorbike. After a month-long trial, the Broward County jury returned its verdicts on Monday morning. They were each convicted on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm for the ambush that led to the death of XXXTentacion.
XXXTentacion, whose true name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was murdered at the pinnacle of his fame. He was only 20 years old when he passed away. Three intruders robbed him of $50,000 in cash before fleeing the area. The prosecution did not seek the death penalty against any of the defendants, but they all face mandatory life terms.
The deadly armed robbery was captured on security footage. CBS Miami reported in February that jurors in the criminal prosecution of Boatwright, Williams, and Newsome viewed gruesome footage in court. Footage showed an SUV driving up to Onfroy’s BMW in the parking lot of the motorcycle shop and parking perpendicular to it, blocking its egress into the street.
According to the prosecution, Boatwright and Newsome were the assailants shown on the surveillance tape, and the fatal gunfire followed an apparent altercation over the money. According to prosecutors, Boatwright was the shooter, while Newsome was accused of pointing a loaded revolver at the BMW’s occupants. According to court testimony, Williams was driving the getaway car and stayed inside the SUV during the shooting.
A fourth man, 26-year-old Robert Allen, was previously detained and charged in connection with Onfroy’s murder. Allen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August of last year and later testified in court as the prosecution’s first witness. He might still face life in jail for his suspected role in the homicide.
On March 7, during closing arguments, the prosecutor in charge, Pascale Achille, recounted the events that transpired outside Riva Motorsports in Deerfield Beach on June 18, 2018. She revealed how Boatwright and Newsome ambushed XXXTentacion as he left the motorbike shop, while Williams waited nearby in an app-rented SUV.
Since his untimely passing, XXXTentacion’s family and fans have been yearning for justice, which this verdict provides.
