Amakye Dede Opens Up On How He Was ‘forced’ to Crown Kuami Eugene as ‘King Of Highlife’

Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician Amakye Dede has revealed that he did not crown highlife and Afro-beat singer Kuami Eugene the king of highlife willingly, disclosing that he was coerced to bestow the title on the Angela hitmaker.

On Wednesday’s episode of the Asaase Breakfast Show, Amakye Dede opened up about the events that led up to the crowning of Kuami Eugene. He made it clear that giving the title to Kuami Eugene was not what he desired or planned to do but because had to carry out the act upon insistence of someone whose identity he failed to disclose.

Amakye Dede admitted that he initially tried to pass the crown off to someone else, hesitating to take part in the ceremony but in the end and against his will, he performed the coronation.

“Though I did that, it was not my will to do so. But they forced me to crown Kuami Eugene; that is the reason why I did that because I even gave the crown they handed over to me to someone to put it down, but they later said, no, I have to crown him, and I did it,” he claimed.
