Mahama Criticizes Akufo-Addo For Disregarding Anti-Corruption Advice To His Appointees

Former President Mahama has criticised President Akufo-Addo and his administration for disregarding anti-corruption advice to his appointed officials.

The presidential candidate for the main opposition party voiced his displeasure with the actions of President Akufo-Addo’s appointments at the Academic City University College’s graduation ceremony, noting that this behaviour is incompatible with the warning the president issued to his appointees six years ago.

“Some of you who will find yourself in politics, I wish to sound a note of caution: as President Akufo-Addo said, ‘If your goal in office is to enrich yourself, then don’t come; go to the private sector” he said.

In the speech he gave to the graduating class of 2023, John Mahama drew attention to the insightful comments made by a former president over six years ago. He claimed that President Akufo-Addo may have forgotten his own excellent advice, looking at the present situation.

“Very profound words were spoken by the president more than six and a half years ago. With what is happening today, I’m sure the president himself does not remember he spoke these very wise words,” Mahama said… the day of accountability will always come, and with the increased awareness that Ghanaians have,” they are “demanding to be citizens and not spectators, as the president exhorted them to be.”

“You need to eschew the unhealthy temptation of using leadership positions to promote personal or sectional partisan interests to the disadvantage of the organisation or the nation you have been chosen to serve. You should also not use your leadership roles to victimise and settle personal scores but must unite and develop our country,” he added.
