Kodak Black Biography

Bill Kahan Kapri known professionally as Kodak Black, is an American rapper. Dieuson Octave was born in Pompano Beach, Florida, on June 11, 1997, as the son of Haitian immigrant Marcelene Octave. He legally altered his name to Bill Kahan Kapri.

Kodak Black began rapping in secondary school and recording music at a local trap house after school. He spent his youth perusing dictionaries and thesauruses to expand his vocabulary. Kodak Black frequently engaged in brawls and break-ins with his peers. He was expelled from school in the fifth grade for fighting and detained in middle school for auto theft. Regarding his upbringing, he stated that he was given two choices: “sell drugs with a gun on his hip or rap.”

while in middle school. In 2014, Kodak revealed he was working towards his high school diploma at
Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida. After passing his GED (General Educational
Development) test in 2018, the rapper announced he had received his high school diploma but he
was yearning for more. In 2021, while on Instagram live, Kodak Black announced he will be going to
college to further his education.

How Kodak Black got his name

While in prison, Kodak Black identified as a Hebrew Israelite after a priest who conducts prison
ministry began to study the scriptures with him. He later filed to change his birth name to Bill Kahan
Bianco. Reports claim that “Kahan” was an alternative spelling of “Kohen,” a term used in Judaism
to refer to priests who descend from the Prophet Aaron, the brother of Moses. On May 2, 2018,
Kodak legally changed his name from Dieuson Octave to Bill Kahan Kapri.

On the other hand, the rapper coined his stage name “Kodak Black” when he first joined Instagram.
From the age of six, he was nicknamed “Black” and he later adopted “LilBlack,” which he ultimately
changed to “Kodak Black”.

Kodak Black was born the second of three children to his parents Marcelene Octave (mother) and his father, identified as Mr Octave. His parents were native Haitians who migrated to the United States in the early 1990s.

According to reports, Kodak’s parents separated when he was still young s0 he was raised by his mother, Marcelene Octave in a public housing project called Golden Acres.

Marcelene Octave was born in the Caribbean Island nation of Haiti. She relocated to Florida, USA, alongside her husband in the early 1990s. According to reports, Marcelene Octave got married in
the late 80s. She later divorced her husband over infidelity. After the divorce, she took up multiple meagre jobs in order to provide for her children.

Kodak Black is the second of three children. He has two brothers named John Wicks and Lil Kodak.

Music Career

At the age of 12, Kodak Black joined a rap group called Brutal Youngnz under the stage name J-Black. He later joined a local rap group called The Kolyons and in December 2013, he released his first mixtape, “Project Baby” followed by “Hearts of the projects” in December 2014 and “Institution” in December 2015.

In October 2015, popular Canadian rapper Drake posted avideo of himself dancing to one of Kodak’s songs “Skrt” which helped him gain popularity in the rap industry.

That same month, Kodak signed a deal with Atlantic Records, the same record label fellow rapper Lil
Uzi Vert was signed to. In August 2016, Kodak’s single “Skrt” reached number 10 on Billboard’s ‘Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. That same month, Kodak was criticized after a studio session video was released which showed him ridiculing dark-skinned Black women with lyrics that implied that those women were less attractive than light-skinned Black women.

In December 2018, Kodak Black released his second album “Dying to Live” The album which included the chart-topping single “Zeze” featured other rappers such as Travis Scott and Offset.

On January 23, 2021, he released the single “Last Day In” in which he discusses his release from prison as a result of President Donald Trump’s pardon. On February 6, 2021, he released the single “Every Balmain” in which he discusses his existence after his release from prison. He appeared in Lil Yachty’s single “Hit Bout It,” which had a music video, on February 19.

On May 14, 2021, Kodak released a mixtape titled “Haitian Boy Kodak.” The album’s cover art celebrates his Haitian pride. Kodak was disappointed that the mixtape only sold 22,000 copies in its first week, alleging that listeners had abandoned gangsta rap.

Kodak released his next project, “Happy Birthday Kodak,” on his twenty-fourth birthday, June 11, 2021. The single “Super Gremlin” peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The track also appeared on Kodak’s fourth studio album, “Back for Everything, “which was released on February 25, 2022. The project reached its highest position on the Billboard 200 at number two.

Following the release of his viral singles “Walk/Spin” months later, Kodak announced his departure from Atlantic Records and eight-figure record deal with Capitol Records. The first volume of “Kutthroat Bill,” Kodak’s final collaboration with Atlantic, was released on October 28, 2022. The compilation reached number eight on the Billboard 200.

As of the time of publishing this article, Kodak Black is a father of three children (a boy and two girls)
from two different baby mamas and expecting a third one.

According to ECelebrityMirror, Kodak had his first child with Jammiah Broomfield, a son named King Khalid who is 8 years old as of 2023. King, who was born on March 14, 2015, was unknown to the MC until his first birthday, according to reports.

In March 2021, footage from King’s 7th birthday party showed the rapper having some fun with his son by putting cake in his face. Jammiah was also present at the birthday, and the parents shared a laugh at the child’s expense.

The rapper’s second child and first daughter, Queen Yuri, was born in January 2022. Kodak shares the child with his fiancée, Maranda Johnson, who, according to TMZ, works as a real estate agent.

Kodak appeared on The Breakfast Club in 2022 to confirm that he was expecting another child sometime in the year. He went on to share that he and a woman named Daijanae Ward was having a boy. In fact, Kodak claimed that he would commit to Daijanae if their child is indeed a boy.

Daijanae went on to give birth to a baby girl, Izzabella sometime in Summer 2022. So, it’s unclear if Daijanae and Kodak are an item.

The rapper has an estimated net worth of $5 million as of 2023. Kodak Black gets his earnings from sales of his albums, singles, and mixtapes and his live performances, tours and endorsement deals.

In July 2021, Kodak purchased $12, 500 worth of air conditioners and personally had them
delivered to the residents of Golden Acres Projects in Pompano Beach where he grew up.

In February 2023, Kodak Black paid $1.8 million for a 0.7-acre commercial property in Pompano Beach, Florida. The site features two buildings from the 1950s, one a 3,800 square foot structure and the other a 4,900 square foot structure.

His primary home is in Hollywood, Florida. He paid $557,000 for his house in 2018.
