KiDi Biography

Dennis Nana Dwamena was born on August 18, 1993. His stage moniker, “KiDi,” translates to “Rhythm.”

His mother, Beatrice, is of Ga descent, and his father, Gerald, is from Kwahu-Abetefi. He identifies with his Kwahu heritage. His father died when he was seven years old. KiDi is the oldest of three siblings, with Phillip and Elliot serving as his junior brothers.

His primary education began at Accra’s St. Anthony’s School, and he attended Accra Academy for his secondary education. He continued his education at the University of Ghana Legon, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Information Studies in 2016.

KiDi’s passion for music led him to perform on Moonlight Café while he was a student at the University of Ghana. Moonlight Café is a music production that supports up-and-coming artists and provides them with platforms to showcase their talents on Ghanaian university campuses. He also recorded popular song adaptations.

Music Career

In 2015, KiDi participated in the MTN Hitmaker competition after taking a leap of faith. He ultimately won the competition and was subsequently contracted by Lynx Entertainment. KiDi rose to fame in 2017 with the release of “Say You Love Me,” a composition he composed, arranged, and produced.

When he released “Odo” in July 2017, the remix with Nigerian artists Davido and Mayorkun in December 2017, and “Adiepena” in April 2018, KiDi established himself as one of the most rapidly ascending talents in Ghana.

KiDi has performed on numerous stages, such as the 2017 Rapperholic Concert, Ghana Music Honours 2017 Edition, December to Remember 2017, S Concert 2017, and the 61st Ghana Independence Celebration Show at London’s Indigo 02 in March 2018. He has performed on the same stage as many award-winning African artists including Sarkodie, Samini, Shatta Wale, MzVee, WizKid, Tiwa Savage, Efya, and Patoranking.

KiDi has also produced a number of songs for other artists and collaborated with Ghanaian producer Richie Mensah, who has won multiple awards. He has collaborated with artists such as Tic Tac, Ko-Jo Cue, Magnom, and Kwesi Arthur. He has also written for Ghanaian performers, including the award-winning MzVee and Adina.

KiDi was nominated for six awards at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, including ‘Best New Artiste’, ‘Afro-pop Song of the Year,’ and ‘Male Vocalist of the Year,’ and won the award for ‘High-life Song of the Year’ in April 2018. He was named Artiste of the Year for the Fifth Edition of the 3Music Award and VGMA 2022.

Currently, KiDi has two studio albums and one EP. Sugar, his first album, was released on May 31, 2019. In the same year, he also released the film ‘Sugar’ in Accra, Kumasi, and the United Kingdom.

In March 2023, a rapid spread of rumors suggested that KiDi had suffered a stroke. Ghanaian tabloids quickly picked up on the news, but it was later debunked by his label president, Richie Mensah.
